In a teaching clinic you will use an FM book to explain the targets and give the swimmer the opportunity to physically hit the targets in the pool. Each swimmer learns in a different way and at their own rate. Have them execute the skills slowly so they can notice if they are being accurate.
Overall Ideas Running Through the Session
*Time = # Strokes x Rate. Taking fewer strokes is the first step to faster swimming.
*For each Keystone, tell them What, Why and How.
*Give them the tools to coach themselves.
Prior to clinic
*Review what you will be teaching in the class. The next class is based on the last Event Summary Form (ESF) in OnForm.
*Import the book being used and any relevant avatars into the swimmer’s OnForm account.
*Prepare what you will need for the clinic prior to the class – iPad, forms, pen, etc.
On deck prior to pool (5 – 7 minutes)
*Greetings and explain what will be covered in class.
*Continuing swimmers: Review homework and was the swimmer able to cement one skill in practice?
*Explain new coursework from book.
In pool (46 – 50 minutes)
*100 yard warm up – slow / no fly
*In book order, explain 1 Keystone and have the swimmer do a 25 focusing on that only.
*Use the book and avatar to show the swimmer what to do.
*Make adjustments to the stroke. T3 – use videos of the swimmer.
*For time management, do a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 laps on each Keystone.
*Cover all the Keystones and determine which opportunity to assign the swimmer to work on in practice.
On deck after getting out of the pool (5 - 7 minutes)
*Fill out Event Summary Form - review information and ask the swimmer questions
*Assign homework in the book and 1 Keystone opportunity to cement in practice (back of the Event Summary form).
*Take a picture of the ESF and import it into the OnForm account.
*T3 – show the parent a video demonstrating what was being worked on and why.
Total time – 1 hour
Post clinic (within 48 hours)
*Submit for pay
*T3 – send video analysis through OnForm
